Meet Our Veterinary Team in Covington, LA

Dr. Peter Feringa graduated from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. From there, he went to Los Angeles, where he studied under Dr. Stephen Ettinger for two years. In 1988, he married Kara Garbo, and together they have triplets – Brett, Megan, and Ellen, who were born in 1996. Dr. Feringa owned Bay Animal Hospital from 1991 until 2009. He then moved back to Louisiana and purchased Hillside Veterinary Associates. Dr. Feringa has a special interest in internal medicine and cardiology. He is an avid fisherman and loves to travel and spend time outdoors.

Courtney graduated from Covington High School and Pen Foster and has been practicing for four years. She prides herself in making sure her patients have everything they need from arrival to departure. In her free time, she enjoys hunting, fishing, mud riding, taking care of her cows, camping, and going out to eat.

Elle graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and is in the application process for Vet School. She has a “failed foster” dog named Gigi who is her little shadow and favorite adventure buddy. In her free time, she loves being outdoors, spending time with her family, volunteering at the animal shelter, and taking Gigi on new adventures. She has always had a huge love for animals and hopes to turn that passion into a career. She loves learning and getting so much hands-on experience at Hillside!

Amanda has had a love for veterinary medicine since she was a child. She has been in Veterinary Medicine for over 20 years. Her first job was at a clinic in Slidell, LA as a volunteer while she was a junior in high school. While still in high school, she moved to North Platte, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in 2000, she started courses for Veterinary Assistant, and after graduation from that program, she started taking Veterinary Technician courses. In 2002 she was hired at a mixed animal practice in North Platte, NE, then moved with one of the doctors to a small animal-only practice, where she remained until 2014. In 2014 she moved back home to Louisiana to be closer to family. She was hired at a clinic in Ponchatoula, LA, and remained there until 2020, when she was hired at Hillside. Amanda has such a love for animals and treats every patient as if they were her own fur baby. Amanda continues to learn with continuing education as veterinary medicine is ever-changing.

When not at work, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, son, and husband. They love to spend time taking their son places to explore, and his favorite place is the beach or Pawpaw’s house. She enjoys gardening, growing tomatoes and peppers, along with cooking. She has 6 rescue dogs: 4 Chihuahuas, Saint, Roux, Brees, Beignet, and 2 Catahoula X Tangi and Toula.

Tammy has been practicing for 14 years and attended St. Louis High School and UNO. She prides herself in getting to know her clients and their pets needs. Tammy enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her cats, goats, and horses. The beach is her special place.

Jersey has dedicated the last three years of her life to veterinary medicine. Her favorite dog breed is the Dachshund. She has two horses, a dog, and a box turtle named Maxwell. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, barrel racing, shopping, and spending time with her furry and human family. Her goal is to grow in the field of veterinary medicine by being a safe place for animals, and learning as much as she possibly can.

Alisha has been practicing for 15 years and graduated from the On The Job Training program. She prides herself in treating animals as if they are her own. In her free time, she likes spending time with her family and her dog Arlie.
